WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR IVF ULTRASOUND VISITS
Ultrasounds for Fertility Drug Monitoring
The first phase of IVF involves ovarian stimulation, where fertility medications are used to encourage your ovaries to produce multiple mature follicles. These medications are usually given as injections.
During this stage, you will have several ultrasounds to monitor how your ovaries are responding. These scans help your care team track follicle development and adjust your medication if needed. Based on the results, your provider will decide when you are ready to move to the next step of treatment.
Ultrasounds During Early Pregnancy
If treatment is successful and pregnancy occurs, additional ultrasounds will be scheduled to monitor early fetal development. The first pregnancy ultrasound typically takes place around 6–7 weeks, or about 4–5 weeks after embryo transfer. This scan helps confirm the pregnancy and assess early growth.
